The interior light unit has a light source (2) and a cooperating reflector (3), positioned on opposite sides of the passenger space (1), e.g. at the floor and ceiling level. The reflector has a number of reflector surfaces selectively brought into the operative position, for cooperation with the light from the source, for varying the interior lighting characteristics. The light source may be incorporated in a central control console (4) within the passenger space between the front seats, with the reflector incorporated in the passenger space roof cladding.
