Self-locking rope brake for climbing safety

The rope is passed in a loop about a rope guide between two plates. During a fall, the loop parts are deflected by traction, and act with a second guide for braking. The rope guides are formed by two bolts (1,2). The distance between the plates corresponds to approximately the rope thickness. The loop is passed about the bolt, between the bolt and a suspension part (3) for the climber. The incoming part of the loop is closer to the bolt than the outgoing part, which is pressed against the incoming part by a spring (7). During braking, and dependent upon the relative positioning of bolts and suspension part, the rope brake occupies a position, in which both incoming and outgoing loop parts are curved around the bolt in a sufficiently large angle.
