The nuclear reactor comprises an internal removable lid (18) for closing the upper part of the core shroud (5), disposed perpendicular to the vessel (2) lid. The reactor can be cooled to be stopped without using the auxiliary cooling circuit by decreasing the temperature and the pressure in the primary circuit to a level at which it is possible to open the vessel. The vessel (2) lid is removed and the reactor well (24) located above the vessel (2) is filled with cooling water. The internal lid (18) is removed and the water filling the reactor well is cooled by coming in contact with the reactor core (3). |
