The system disengages a first and second friction engagement element according to the change from drive to non-drive regions. A change detection device detects changes from the drive to the non-drive regions. A release controller controls the reduction in the oil pressure in the second friction engagement element on the basis of the reduction in the first element's oil pressure when a change from drive to non-drive mode is detected.
