The invention discloses the use as cosmetic product of cross-linked and at least 90 % neutralised poly(2-acrylamido 2-methylpropane sulphonic acid) polymers. They comprise in general, distributed randomly: a) 90 to 99.9 wt.% of units of general formula (1) in which X<+> represents a cation or a mixture of cations, at most 10 % mol of the cations X<+> can be protons H<+>; b) 0.01 to 10 wt.% of cross-linking units derived from at least one monomer having at least two olefinic double-bonds; the weight proportions being defined with respect to the polymer total weight. The invention concerns particularly their use as thickening and/or gelling agent in cosmetic and/or dermatological compositions.
