The tool (1) includes an electric drive motor (12) arranged in a casing (11) for the activation of a tool, e.g. a screwdriver (2), and an axially adjustable depth plot (16), through which the drive motor is automatically switched off when a workpiece (4) reaches a certain depth. A switch circuit arrangement (21) is associated with the drive motor, and includes a switch (24) for switching the drive motor on and off, a first switching stage (25) for changing the polarity of the drive motor between right- or left-turn, and a second switching stage (26) for switching off the drive motor through the depth plot. An electric switching element (32, 33) is arranged in a branch (31) bypassing the second switching stage, which bridges the second switching stage at an activation of the first switching stage through the depth plot to reverse the rotation direction of the drive motor.
