Dental tray designed to facilitate taking of very accurate impressions

The dental impression tray is used in moulding dental impressions using a setting moulding composition, and takes the form of a shell (10) which fits either the upper or lower human jaw and holds the impression material. The shell can be separated into two or more parts. This allows the impression material carrying the moulded impressions to be removed, with minimal disturbance to it. Preferably the shell has a base plate (14) conforming to the palate or tongue regions, with a U-shaped outer side wall (16) clasping at least partially around the row of teeth. The base plate and outer side wall are detachably fastened. The base plate for he upper jaw impression is curved towards the palate.
