Multi-layer sealing for hollow spaces such as tunnels

The sealing consists of sealing sheets (1,2) made of plastics, which are checked for leak-tightness by a vacuum. An inlay sheet (3) is placed between the two sealing sheets. A chemical or mineral filling material is incorporated within the inlay sheet, which expands heavily on exposure to water. The inlay sheet consists of a woven fabric holding the filling material. The fill quantity of chemicals or minerals is calculated so that at each damaged position allowing water through, a layer of expanded material is formed having the full thickness of the inlay sheet. Thus further spread of moisture is prevented. The woven fabric is formed from yarn.
