The device has a balance frame (14) which is articulated to a crane (K) and can swivel about a horizontal axis (H). The device has at least two wheels (L) which are mounted with their axle bearings combined in one bearing unit (20). The bearing unit is held, elastically tensioned, on one side on the balance frame. The movement of the bearing unit is restricted in a vertical plane through stops (28). At the place where the balance frame is formed by two spaced vertically running frame side pieces, the bearing unit is formed by an area cut out of each side piece and connected to same by a neck section (22a). The neck can widen out downwards.
