A high power voltage converter with an intermediate circuit has an inverter (15) converting power from the DC source (11 to 13) into AC and between the two is the intermediate circuit (14) which comprises a battery of condensers (17) between two connecting lines. Means are provided to interrupt the discharge circuit formed by the condensers and the short-circuit path in the case of a short circuit in the inverter or the DC source. The inverter is equipped with MOS-controlled switches. The DC source is formed by a DC network, comprising a rectifier (13) attached to an AC network. The rectifier also has MOS-controlled switches.
