Ballistic shield for ammunition bunker in front of combat vehicle hull

The ammunition bunker (9) is for large-calibre ammunition (10) contained in horizontal tiers. A front ballistic shield is formed by the front armour-plating (7) of the tank hull and a ballistic shield formed by the roof plate (13) of the tank hull. The protruding front part of the armoured turret protrudes beyond the hull over its full width, and to a depth corresponding to the length of the propellant charges of the ammunition. The roof plate, at least near the bunker, is reinforced by an extra armoured layer (14). A further armour-plate layer (15) which is effective against hollow charges is positioned between the roof plate and the uppermost ammunition layer (A), and below the uppermost ammunition layer and below the further adjacent ammunition layers (B).
