This armouring section provides discriminatory active protection. It comprises at least two armour plates, with an explosive layer between them. In the new arrangement, there is a space (6) between the front plate taking the impact of the shot (14) and the layer of explosive (2). Preferably the spacing lies between one and a few millimetres. This interspace includes a low-density support structure, preferably with open or closed cavities, e.g. a foam filling. A rigid plastic foam, e.g. polypropylene or polystyrene, is suitable . Alternatively it is a reactive material, which contributes to the energy of detonation of the explosive. Immediately against the explosive layer (2) a further layer of compact material, e.g. metal is arranged.
