By means of the device, the current thickness - and thus the wear - of a brake lining of a motor vehicle brake system is detected, which device has on each wheel individually electrically controlled wheel brake actuators 4 which actuate the wheel brakes. The wheel brake actuator 4 contains a hydraulic piston (fig.2, not shown) 26, which is moved by an electro-motor 20, and is provided with a sensor 30, which detects the braking pressure or the braking force, and with a further sensor 31, which detects the path of the hydraulic piston. The thickness of the brake lining is established from the signals of these two sensors. For this purpose, the path s which the hydraulic piston 26 has covered until a predetermined braking pressure is reached is measured. |
