Press for dewatering suspensions

Press removes suspended solids from liquids esp. sludge and incorporates spray tubes to clean the filter belts and trays which capture collected solid matter. The press is improved in that the rinsing liquid is passed through a closed circuit in which it is repeatedly (at least three times) used to clean successive trays and/or filter belts. Cleaning fluid circuit incorporates sections in which the trays are arranged (a) in a superior and inferior overlapping sequence and (b) with pipe fluid distribution systems or gullies linking the tray fluid outlet with the filter belt liquid supply or vice versa. Cleaning fluid collected from lowest tray is returned to uppermost tray or filter belt. Cleaning fluid supply sections run partially parallel and may be used as required. Filter belt cleaning assemblies (S1, S5) can be directed (S2, S3) either at the tray or the filter belt as required.
