The continuous casting of steel billets

A steel billet is manufactured by casting one end into a mould with amovable base, removing the base and transporting the billet end along a cooling zone supplied with sprays. The first transporter has at most one guide per meter through the cooling zone. Casting and cooling are intermittently stopped and the mould base and transport means are returned for the next casting. Also claimed is an apparatus for performing the method described above.
