Rechargeable electrochemical battery, with organic liquid electrolyte has average discharge voltage of 3 volts. Battery contains at least one electrode which comprises a current collector coating in paste form containing active electrochemical material and binder which is a polymer partially neutralised by a basic compound chosen from e.g. quaternary ammonium hydroxide, ethanolamine, or tetraalkyl-phosphonium hydroxide. The polymer is selected from polymers of e.g. acrylic acid, sulphonic acid or acrylamide, their copolymers and their mixtures. Electrode is made by adding active material in powder form to solution of binder, forming electrode by spreading paste on foil of metal, e.g. copper, nickel or aluminium, drying electrode at 60-120 degrees C, and treating electrode to obtain porosity of 20-60%. Paste used may contain additives. |
