Process for preparing vinyl chloride polymers and copolymers by suspension polymerisation of a monomer composition based on vinyl chloride in a closed reactor in the presence of variable amounts of oxygen, using a reaction mixture comprising water, a monomer composition, at least one organosoluble polymerisation initiator, at least one oxidised polyvinyl alcohol and optionally at least one suspending agent.
