The processor includes sub-processors (522) for processing samples which are generated by a detector (14). The samples are generated as a function of the intensity of radiation incident on the detector. The response signal of the detector is characterised by afterglow which is represented as a function of at least one afterglow amplitude and at least one afterglow time constant. A temperature sensor (532) measures the temperature of the detector. A memory look up table (LUT) (534) generates a parameter signal according to the function of the temperature. The parameter signal is representative of the afterglow amplitude and the afterglow time constant and is applied to the sub-processors.
