Pyro-electric charging device (60) for charging grounded photo-conductive surface member (90) has a cylindrical conductive roll support structure (62) completely covered by a layer of pyro-electric film (61). The roll is placed in contact with the photo-conductive surface (97) and a heater (64) communicating with the film is used to produce surface potentials that charge the surface. Also claimed is printing apparatus having a photo-conductive surface, the claimed pyro-electric charging device, an imaging device for discharging the photo-conductive surface in image-wise configuration, a device for developing the image on the photo-conductive surface, a transfer device for transferring the image from the photo-conductive surface to a copy sheet, a fuser for fusing the image to the copy sheet, and an output device for receiving the copy sheet from the fuser. |
