Adaptive credit based data flow control method

The method involves distinguishing in the receiver station between an active and an inactive existing connection, whereby an existing connection is classified by the receiver station as inactive, if in reference to this existing connection no data-PDUs are received over a certain period of time. An active connection is awarded a credit by the receiver station, i.e. a permission to send a certain amount of data-PDUs up to a renewed credit award. The amount is calculated in dependence on available resource capacity of the connection in the receiver station. An inactive connection is periodically charged with a credit, which is redrawn before a renewed credit award in case of non-use, i.e. non-activation of the connection.
