<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the autochanger for making a cartridge fit for and load into a recording and reproducing device and performing recording and reproducing processing rapidly and exactly. SOLUTION: A control unit 68 is equipped with a memory MM for storing medium information as to each cartridge, and is connected with a host computer HST, etc., via a SCSI(small computer system interface) controller CNT. When an instruction for loading a specific cartridge into the recording and reproducing device is issued from the host computer HST, etc., a status data showing whether this cartridge is in the state of being fittable for and loadable into the recording and reproducing device or not, etc., based on the medium information as to this cartridge is returned via the SCSI controller CNT by the control unit 68. Based on the contents of this status data, the control unit 68 is commanded by the host computer HST, etc., to load the cartridge in its fittable state into the recording and reproducing device.</p> |
