PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recording liquid having excellent printed letter density, light resistance, water resistance and storage stability, giving excellent monochromatic or full-color printed matter and useful for ink jet recording or writing utensils by adding a specific colorant to an aqueous medium. SOLUTION: A black recording liquid is produced by adding a colorant of the formula I [A is phenyl or naphthyl which may have amino, acylamino, OH, carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid group as a substituent; X is H, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy or a 2-6C alkoxyalkoxy; Y is a group of the formula II or CH=CH-CH3 ; Z is H or a (substituted)phenyll to an aqueous medium. |
