PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a contained heavy metal to prevent the elution thereof by adding a sol like or water dispersible treatment agent consisting of soluble silicate, an additive selected from calcium, magnesium, iron II, iron III and aluminum and water. SOLUTION: A waste treatment agent is formed in a sol like or water dispersible state from soluble silicate, for example, sodium silicate, an additive and water. As the additive, at least one kind of ions of a polyvalent metal selected from a group consisting of calcium, magnesium, iron II, iron III and aluminum and water are contained. This treatment agent is added to heavy metal- containing waste within a water tank. Soluble silicate reacts with heavy metal ions eluted from waste to become insoluble and also reacts with polyvalent metal ions to enclose or adsorb a heavy metal. A reactant in a pref. form is preliminarily present in the treatment agent by the action of the additive and the treatment agent can be stabilized without being affected by quantitative relation of silicate and polyvalent metal ions of waste. |
