PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a safe therapeutic agent for neurodegenerative diseases, comprising a thromboduolin (abbreviated to TM)-like protein as an active ingredient and hardly causing adverse effects. SOLUTION: This therapeutic agent for neurodegenerative diseases comprises a TM-like protein as an active ingredient and is prepared as a parenteral injection, a pernasal absorbent, a percutaneous absorbent or a peroral agent. The daily dose thereof is, e.g. 0.01-10000μg/kg expressed in terms of the amount of the TM-like protein. The objective substance is capable of directly acting on neurons and manifesting neurotrophic effects such as the promotion of survival thereof or promotion of axon process extension and useful for treating Alzheimer type dementia, Parkinson disease, Huntington's chorea or neuropathy due to cerebral trauma or cerebral damage and further treating peripheral neurodengenerative diseases, etc., such as amytotropic lateral sclerosis, diabetic neuropathy, neuropathy caused by a carcinostatic agent or alcoholic neuropathy. The therapeutic agent can be administered in vivo in order to improve the take ratio when transplanting a nervous tissue, a neuron, etc., or the maintenance, etc., of functions after the transplantation or is capable of treating the nervous tissue, neuron, etc., before the transplantation.
