MPEG-2 DECODING METHOD AND MPEG-2 VIDEO DECODER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the memory capacity decoding data compressed again with an expanded B-picture and expanding them with respect to a display unit. SOLUTION: I and P pictures expanded by the adaptive differential pulse code modulation ADPCM technology are coded, compressed again and compensated for motion, and written in an external memory. I-DCT block output data are coded. The output data from the I-DCT block are expanded and decoded in relation to I, P images read and compressed again from each buffer of the external memory. Together with output data of the I-DCT block relating to the expanded B-picture, a video data stream is generated relating to the I and P pictures to be fed to an external video display unit.
