PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contour emphasis method by which a degree of emphasis is easily revised. SOLUTION: A contour emphasis circuit 11 emphasizes a contour in a horizontal direction. At first, a weight sum between a picture element in question and picture elements to the left and right of the picture element in question is calculated by a set weight. A preset gain is multiplied with the weight sum in advance to calculate the emphasis component, which is added to the picture element in question. Then the contour emphasis circuit 11 emphasizes the contour in a vertical direction. At first, a difference between the picture element in question and a picture element of one preceding horizontal line is calculated. A preset table cross-referencing the difference with the emphasis component is referenced, the emphasis component is decided from the calculated difference and it is added to the picture element in question. Thus, a degree of emphasis is easily revised by changing the weight, gain stored in a memory 12 and the setting of the table. |
