The invention relates to the extensive removal of butadiene from vinyl chloride. The object of the invention is attained when a low-boiling, high hydrogen-chloride fraction is conveyed, while the pyrolysis product is being separated off, on a catalyst which converts the acetylene contained as a by-product with hydrogen-chloride to form vinyl chloride.
