This invention relates to methods and reagents for inhibiting release of cytokines from mammalian cells, said release being mediated by an ATP-dependent, cell membrane molecular pump termed P-glycoprotein (Pgp). The invention provides methods and reagents, including in particular immunological reagents such as specific monoclonal antibodies and hybridoma cells producing such antibodies, for inhibiting cytokine release mediated by Pgp transport. Methods for treating autoimmune disease and for minimizing organ, tissue and cell transplant rejection are also provided. |
