The present invention relates to the protection against counterfeited banknotes, securities and documents and may be used for simplifying and reducing the cost of such a protection while maintaining a high protection level. To this end, the protection method against counterfeiting comprises introducing into the material of the item to be protected, or applying on the latter, marks which are made of a stable osmium-187 isotope or one of its compounds. The presence of the isotope is revealed using magnetic nuclear means. The introduction of a stable osmium-187 isotope into the material of the item to be protected, or its application on the latter, may be performed using a chemical compound that provides a constant orientation of the magnetic moments of the osmium-187 atom electronic layer. |
