Packaging machine and drive system for e.g. sealing rope-like plastic material in wrapper

Apparatus for the constricting and closing of a wrapping around a rope-like length of a plastic material, especially a multilayer extruded rope, then cutting off at prescribed distances, comprises a tool (3, 4) with segments which move relative to each other. Each tool(3, 4) is in two sections(31, 32) which separate from each other with each containing a part of the segments. A specific system for operating the tools (3, 4) using a circular movement includes lever arms carrying the tool parts (31, 32) at the free ends and a swivelling bearing with a linear movement at the other end connecting the lever arms together.
