Method for detecting foreign bodies in mats of wood waste during manufacture of wood particle panels

The method involves a linear optical system which produces a flat beam (3) projected on a to plane at right angles to the direction of the flat beam in the form of a straight line image. The flat beam is directed at an angle of incidence which is less than ninety degrees into a detection zone on the surface of the mat of wood waste (2) at ninety degrees to the direction in which the mat is moving on a conveyor belt. The straight line image produced by the flat beam on the continually moving surface of the mat is automatically measured with the aid of a computer. Points where the straight line image ceases to be straight and curves in an arc shape are indicated by the computer as an area containing foreign bodies.
