Compact halogen lamp for mains operation

The halogen lamp has a bias device using a capacitor (1) for matching the compact halogen lamp (2) to the mains operating voltage. A discharge resistor is connected across the capacitor for discharging the capacitor voltage when the lamp is switched off, for preventing an electrical shock due to the residual capacitance when the lamp is touched. The bias device is contained in a lamp socket housing with a threaded or bayonet connection for the halogen lamp. The housing may be formed in 2 parts to allow the part to which the halogen lamp is fitted to be pivoted.
