Counterbalancing shaft for piston engine

The shaft (1) has one or more weights (4), two surfaces (6,7) spaced apart and by which it works in bearings and a driving wheel (5). One weight at least is detachable from a portion (2) of the shaft and to which the wheel is positively secured. It is held in place by a component (14) passing through it in the radial direction and extending into the shaft.The coupling between the latter and the wheel can be by mating flats, and the wheel can be secured in the axial direction between the detachable weight and a flange (20) on the shaft.
