<p>Process-related modules (8 to 11) contain means (15 to 18) for automatically running predetermined functions for the purpose of process automation. Each module (8 to 11) has a memory (22 to 25) which contains module-specific information on the function of the module (8 to 11) and its connections to the measurement, control and regulation equipment. During an initialisation phase, this information is transmitted to a central communication device (4) in which it is stored for access by a control and monitoring device (1) which thus can automatically add this information to its control and monitoring surface.</p>
