Radioactively contaminated electrical cable disposal

Method and plant are for the disposal of radioactively contaminated electrical cables where the cables are cut up coarsely in a shredder and finely in a mill, and reusable materials are separated out and reclaimed, where the novelty is that a pneumatic conveyor carries the finely cut matter to a cyclone from which air is extracted through a filter to remove dust and aerosols; a separator (8) extracts metal (9), and larger non-metal (10) which can be re-cycled, depending on the contamination level; a further cyclone and filter separate granular material, dust and aerosol material from the separator (8) exhaust air.
