Pneumatic motion damper featuring simple manufacture and solid reliability

The cylinder of this new pneumatic damper is closed at one end and contains a rod-mounted, sliding piston. The piston ring-seal separates chambers on either side. Piston orifices connect them. In novel design, a conical seat (2a) widens away from the piston rod, and carries an outer, peripheral flange (2b). The ring seal (4) has a corresponding conical recess (4a) and can execute limited axial movements, sliding between the peripheral flange and a further flange (6) mounted a little further along the rod. Radial grooves (2', 6') are formed into the surfaces of these flanges. Those in the peripheral flange have the smaller cross section. The grooves form the orifice channel, which is completed over the conical seating surface by an additional passage. Preferably, the piston rod and ring flange are integrated and made of plastic. The ring seal is made of polyoxymethylene (POM) with embedded molybdenum.
