Vehicle tank pressure measuring process for leak testing

The process determines the pressure in a vehicle tank. It uses a membrane pump and a movable membrane by which pressure is produced and which divides a housing into two chambers, one of which is linked to the tank. By increasing the pressure in the tank, any leaks can be detected, as can the kinematic value, corresponding to the movement time of the membrane during compression from which the prevailing pressure is calculable. From the relationship between the prevailing pressure in the tank, the increased pressure and the tank volume, the volume of free gas and/or liquid present can also be obtained. The process is simple and enables leak diagnosis and the collection of tank pressure and other data to be undertaken simultaneously.
