The tool (12) has hard metal cutting plates exchangeably clamped in peripheral incisions in the tool. The edge area of the cutting tool, near to the incisions, recesses (52) are provided with at least one cam surface in which round bracing inserts (54) are inserted, being exchangeable and having at least one corresponding cam surface. The recesses for accommodation of the bracing inserts are open to the edge of the cutting tool and evolve from the swarf space (34) of the corresponding cutting plate (28). The bracing inserts on the side facing the swarf space have a cut-out for continuous insertion in the edge line of the swarf space. From the edge of the incisions bulges evolve in the material of the cutting tool and also from the edge of the recesses.
