A disc=like profiling tool executes a repeated movement along a rotating polishing screw. Profiling is carried out in the areas of a screw thread axial section where no modifications of the profile exist in the profile trueing process (with linear contact) and in flank areas which have shape modifications as well as in the areas of the foot, head and rounded head of a screw thread axial section in a trueing process (with spot contact). Each of the two flank sides of a polishing screw axial section is divided into individual forming elements. To produce two forming elements with different engagement angle of a screw thread axial section a special profiled tool carries out between two profiling strokes a further movement in the form of a swivel turn about a rotary axis.
