The induction heater has a pair of electrical connections from which extend a pair of branches whose length may be adjusted to suit a long metal workpiece which lies between them, and are joined at their other ends by a head piece. Although the branches are single stranded they are separable across their lengths and have magnetic field improving plates. The induction heater consists of two high frequency voltage terminals (14) forming part of first sections (6a,6b) of the branches (2a,2b) which comprise end sections (8a,8b), head sections (10a,10b), connected to the head piece (4), and intermediate sections (12a,12b). Inside edge profiles (18) and metal plates (16) wrapped over the arms ensure maximum magnetic field. A work piece is placed between the arms for heating and interchangeable centre sections (12a,12b) are used to set the length. Water cooling of the arms is provided by bores through the lengths.
