A frame made of cross and longitudinal members with spring elements that are easy to mount and having a progressive effect for plate-like supports (5) for example, upon which the mattress or seat upholstery rests. Each spring element is comprised of an approximately C-shaped lower leaf-spring (3) placed in a horizontal position and a substantially mirror-symmetrical upper leaf-spring (4) which ends are connected to the ends of the lower leaf-spring (3). By fitting a double wedge (7a, 7b) at least in between the lower leaf-spring (3) and the part of the frame supporting it (1) the progressive effect can be modified to a substantial extent.
