The invention relates to a brake system for motor vehicles which has a controllable pneumatic servobrake, the control valve thereof being operable by an electromagnet, independently of the driver's intention. A brake pressure regulator produces signals used to actuate the electromagnet. To produce economical and rapid pressure regulation, the invention provides for a current regulator (18) to be connected downstream of the brake pressure regulator (8) and has means (53) for compensation of mechanical and magnetic hysteresis effects which occur during actuation of the electromagnetically actuated sealing seat (30).
