A method for producing retroviral vectors useful for transferring nucleic acid sequences into eukaryotic cells, wherein a eukaryotic cell is infected with at least one herpetic viral vector, is disclosed. The retroviral elements needed to complete the retroviral cycle are provided by the herpetic vector(s) alone or in combination with retroviral elements within the genome of the eukaryotic cell.
