The invention provides a method for improving the adhesiveness between high molecular materials and metallic materials, and for improving the characteristics and long-term stability of composite materials comprising high molecular materials and metallic materials. Prior to bonding the high molecular resin to the metallic material, the metal surface is treated with a sulphur-containing organic compound which contains (A) at least one functional group which is a carboxyl group or a carboxylic acid anhydride group, and (B) at least one functional group which is a mercapto group or a thioether group.
