The apparatus to detach the wound yarn from the surface of a wound cop has a detaching unit (27) which is moved for height along the longitudinal axis (L) of the cop. It has a detachment section (23) with a defined movement through a linkage drive (24) together with its up and down movement, which is connected to a part (26) of the detaching unit (27). Preferably the linkage axes of the linkage drive (24) are set so that the swinging out movement of the yarn catch (23) in one direction (A) increases the pitch angle of the catch (23) against the longitudinal cop axis (L). The linkage drive (24) has four linkage axes where the axis gap at the operating link (26) is larger than the axis gap at the mounting for the yarn catch (23). The detaching unit (27) is fitted to a draw mechanism (35) parallel to the longitudinal axis (L) of the cop (16), and passes over a deflection roller (36) with a reversing drive (38). At least one link of the linkage drive (24) is pressed by a spring into the extended position for the yarn catch (23), and at least one link is connected to a push piston unit (45) to retract the yarn catch (23). A lock (43) at the linkage component (26) defines the force exerted by the spring. The yarn detaching section (23), as a hook, is moved between the cop surface (42) and the end yarn winding (15).
