<p>Data are transmitted using a source code with error protection. A plurality of code books are provided, with the code words in each book having equal length. No two of the code books have code words of the same length. A marker code is associated with each code book, and is indicative of the length of the code words in that book. For transmission, the code words are interleaved with the marker codes, so that the receiver may determine which code book has been used. Received signals are processed both in the forward direction, and in the backwards direction. This procedure serves to isolate portions of the signal, which contain invalid marker codes. Such portions are excluded from further processing.</p> |
