A device (10) for retaining the user in a substantially upright position when seated in a chair (C) is disclosed. The device consists of a bracket (20) attached to the back of the chair having two distal ends (30, 32), the ends extending laterally outwardly from the upright support member (S) of the chair (C). Attached to these distal ends is an adjustable, padded strap (40) that supports the abdomen of the person seated in the chair (C) to prevent them from slouching or leaning forward. The strap (40) extends perpendicular to the rear strut (S) or frame of the chair to hold the user firmly in an upright position.
