TRACHEAL TUBE AND METHODS RELATED THERETO

There is disclosed a tracheal tube (101) for insertion into the trachea (110) of a patient. The tracheal tube (101) includes a tube portion (102) having a distal end (107), and a signal source (103) associated with the tube portion (102) at a predefined distance from its distal end (107). The tracheal tube (101) is inserted into the trachea (110) such that the signal source (103) is immediately posterior to the patient's cricothyroid ligament (112). Methods related to confirming proper placement of the tracheal tube (101) by detecting the signal source (103) immediately posterior to the patient's cricothyroid ligament (112) are also disclosed.
