<p>The invention concerns the location and characterization of a gene (designated NIM1) which is a key component of the SAR pathway and which in connection with chemical and biological inducers enables induction of SAR gene expression and broad spectrum disease resistance to plants. The invention further concerns plants transformed with the NIM1 gene as well as methods employing the gene to create the transgenic plants and employing the gene in a screening assay for compounds capable of inducing broad spectrum disease resistance in plants.</p> |
