This invention refers to a variety of artichoke (Cynara scolymus L) named Unirea, obtained by individual selection within the auto fecundated material of the in-house "of Fundulea" population, recommended to be cultivated in all crop areas for artichoke, throughout the country, for harvesting leaves, in order to extract the active ingredients used in the chemical and pharmaceutics industries. The main features are average length of leaves 66.4 cm, average width of leaves 41.3 cm, average weight of a leaf 74.6 g, average number of leaves on a single plant 13.0, average number of pairs of folioles10.0 and colour of leaves light green. The period of vegetation until the first harvest is 90...93 days. It presents good strength, uniformity and resistance to drought. The Unirea variety is efficient, yielding 335.62 q/ha fresh leaves and 61.19q/ha dry leaves. Content of polyphenol (g percent cynarine) is 2.8255, flavones (g percent luteolin) is 0.707, and yield of polyphenol (kg/ha cynarine) is 177.25, flavones (kg/ha luteolin) is 43.28.
